Focus We all need to have goals. Having no goals is like not having a compass when you are wandering through the forest of life. You simply have no direction about where you are going. What happens when you reach your goals? You set more goals. Further goals. Bigger goals. And it may look easier to set general step-by-step goals, at least at first, so you can see where you're going. But remember the impala? Sometime you just have to leap. Have a go. Set specific
goals
Frederich Nietche - philosopher (1844 - 1900)
There are two key things about powerful, effective goals - goals that make a future. One: they must be specific. And two: they must be in tune with your core values. Let's unpack each of these things. What do I mean by specific? I mean that you have to determine exactly what you want... It's like programming a computer. If you type in that you want to retire in 5 or 10 years, where's that going to get you? The computer won't know what it means: retire on workers compensation after an accident? Retire on the dole? Be specific. If you want to retire in 5 or 10 years, set a financial goal for your retirement - or a place you want to retire to, or what you want to be doing... You want to have $5 million in 5 years. Or you want to have that dream home that you've always loved. Personally, I like the dream home idea, because it includes other people. Which brings us to core values. If you have a family or you are in a relationship, you probably realise that you need to be careful that your goals will be shared by those you want to take with you... But it's the same in business. Core values are so important. Often the reason why companies fail is that they haven't identified what their core values are, what their purpose is. What are our core values? They are, quite, literally, whatever we would die for. They are the most important things in our life.
